The 151st Street Master Bath Redesign was completed for a private client in Edmonds, Washington. (At the time, Emerald Seven was branded as Simrell+Scott.)

This master bath remodel transforms a dated and poorly laid out master bath into a beautiful and functional space capitalizing on a spectacular view through a sunroom window to Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains.

The existing master bathroom had a large footprint, but the space was poorly allocated: a rarely used, massive jetted tub occupied the prime real estate under the sunroom window, while the shower, toilet, and sink were cramped into a series of small spaces that lacked access to the natural light.

The redesign does not expand the footprint of the master bath, but reallocates the interior space to create a more open feel, with a generous shower, an ample counter with a pair of sinks, an enclosed toilet room, and even so: room for a gorgeous free-standing tub.

Custom Cabinetry and Floating Mirrors
The Napolina Limestone tile of the shower is used as an accent wall behind the clean lines of frameless floating mirrors at the vanity.
Calm, natural materials and finishes.
The material palette for the remodel is composed of lush, but calm, natural materials, including Napolina limestone, quartz solid surfaces, and warm-toned solid wood cabinetry and trim. Due to the large, west-facing sunroom window system, the color of the natural light entering the room changes dramatically throughout the day. So, all potential materials and finishes were tested in the space itself, observed periodically as the light shifted, to assure selection of materials that could support such a wide variation in the color of light cast upon them.
Custom Shower with Glass Enclosure & Natural Stone
The issue of low headroom clearance under the existing roof is resolved by filling the space with custom cabinetry that provides additional storage and an opportunity for decor.
Communicating design intention through rendered images.
Quite often, it can be difficult for clients to visualize a design concept from architectural plans. Even a detailed 3D model can be misleading, thanks to the stand-in materials, and the language of shading that communicates three-dimensionality in the modeling program. Creating images with a rendering engine requires a significant commitment of time, effort, and skill, but it can be an overwhelmingly helpful communication tool when the right balance is struck between time and render quality.
