A rooftop respite.
This green roof proposal was developed as an alternative design for an existing multi-unit residential complex in the Pearl District of Portland, Oregon.
While there are sheltered private patios for the apartments located at the level of the roof garden, the majority of the roof garden is made up of shared community space, shaped and articulated to accommodate a multiplicity of activities.
Beyond landscaping, the roof garden includes water features which circulate recaptured rainwater, covered areas for weather protection, a gas fire pit, a grilling area off the community kitchen, and two embedded arcs, which glow gently from below.
Documenting the details with a technical grading plan.
Beyond schematic design, a grading plan was developed to communicate the technical details of the proposed intensive green roof for the residential tower, and the proposed extensive green roof that it overlooks on an adjacent, shorter, building.
Spatial plan diagramming to illustrate functionality of the design features.
A network of plan diagrams not only aided during the design process, but also helps to highlight the objectives and features of the proposal to others in a graphical manner.
